Boiler Install Frequently Asked Questions

Some of the most frequently asked questions about boiler installs.

When you commit to having a new boiler installed, it is understandable that you will have questions about the process and what is involved. So we thought we would answer as many of them as possible.

How do I choose the right boiler?

We have real working knowledge of all the top 15 brands of boiler sold in Scotland. While we may be a Baxi approved boiler installer, we can talk you through the different options and from finding out what you want in a new boiler ie. quick hot water, most economical, quietest etc, we can advise you on the best options and the prices for them all.

Will my water be turned off when the boiler is being fitted?

While we will obviously do our utmost to minimise the disruption that fitting a new boiler may cause during installation, we do need to, depending on the type of boiler fitted, turn the water off for a period of time. But we will advise you on this in advance so that preparations can be made so you still have water in the kettle for a cup of tea etc.

Will I have hot water during the boiler installation?

Sadly not. When we take out your old boiler, you will be without hot water for the time period that it takes to safely fit the new boiler. We always try to minimise the disruption time that this takes but we always want to make sure that your new boiler is installed properly first time. A new boiler install can take between half a day, a full day and sometimes longer depending on the type of gas boiler you are having installed and where the boiler is to be fitted. For example, if you are wanting the new boiler fitted ina completely new location then we have to spend time fitting new gas and water heating pipes. A lot of this can be done while the current boiler is still in operation.

How long does a boiler install take?

It really depends on the type of boiler that you are having installed and where the boiler is being installed. For example, if it is a simple combi boiler replacement in the same position with the same gas pipes, the install is relatively simple and can be completed in a day. However if the boiler is needing to be relocated to another part of the house then new piping will need to be fitted which understandably adds to the timeline. A site survey can give you a more accurate timleine.

Should I get a thermostat fitted with my new boiler?

All new heating installations must be fitted with a room thermostat to meet building regulations. Depending on the size of your property, it may be recommended that you have more than one thermostat to split your home into zones but we can advise you on that during a site survey.

What kind of warranty will my boiler come with?

It really depends on what boiler brand you go for. When we advise you on the boiler options you have, we can discuss the warranty options and give you completely honest and open advise.

Do I need to have a new flue fitted with my boiler?

Replacing an old boiler for a new boiler is most likely to involve changing the boiler flue.

Do I need to move the boiler flue?

Building regulations may have changed since your last boiler install. New regulations were introduced to improve safety and try and prevent boiler flues from being a nuisance for neighbours and people walking past your home where the flue exhaust gas would be a hazard. The position of a flue cannot be too close to a building window, dor, rof eave or other obstacle such as a car parking space.

Are you looking for a quote for a new boiler?

A new boiler can greatly reduce your monthly energy bills whilst offering improved performance for everything from running a toasty hot bath to how quickly you can heat your home in the depths of the Scottish Winter. The big question however is ‘how much does a new boiler cost?’

At WrightGas(Scotland) Ltd, we can offer Combi boiler swaps for as little as £1200. And depending on what boiler you go for, it can come with up to 10 years in parts & Labour warranty!

If you have decided that now is the time to replace your old boiler and want to discuss the costs of a new boiler install, what is involved in the installation process and of course to get a quote for a new boiler for your home, please call WrightGas today on 07746 942 768.
