How long does a boiler install take?

Thinking of a new boiler install but want to know how long it will take to fit?

For some, a new boiler is something they dread because of the cost (though they are not as expensive as you might think). For other, it is the excitment of getting rid of their old, unrelibale, inefficient and noisy boiler for a new boiler. But one question that so many of our customers always want to know is how long will a new boiler take to install?

It is an understandable question, especially if you are getting a new boiler fitted during the Scottish winter.

A new boiler install does take time and your homes heating and hot water supply will be turned off for this period of time. So being able to work around this inconvenience is important. Especially with so many of us working from home nowadays.

So how long does a new boiler install take?

The simple answer is that a new boiler install can take between 1 to 3 working days. But it really depends on the complexity of the fitting job.

What do you mean by the complexity of the job?

Well there are different levels of new boiler install. For example, there is the ‘easier’ straight swap variety of boiler install. This is where one boiler comes out and another one is effectively plugged in its place. This type of boiler install is fast, relatively easy and requires minimum changes to your current home heating set up. So it can generally be done within a day. Types of this lke for like boiler install include combi boilers in newer build flats in the outskirts of Glasgow, Paisley and the larger Towns in Renfrewshire.

What if the boiler needs to be relocated?

This is where it can become a longer install job. If you are wanting to move your boiler to a new location within your home then there is more set up work. You may be wanting to move your boiler from a cupboard in the kitchen to free up some storage space but wherever you are wanting to move it to, that new location needs the various heating and gas pipes to be fitted. Depending on the age of your home, this can add a day to your new boiler install job. Please remember that there are various Health & Safety regulations for fitting a new boiler and importantly, WHERE it can be fitted. So the specific location you want to fit your new boiler may not be legally allowed.

What if I am switching from one type of boiler to another?

Combi boilers are the most popular type of gas boiler in th UK and more and more home owners are switching to combi boilers when they make the jump to buy a new boiler. But changing from one type of boiler to another does come with some complications. From fitting new pipes to adding a flue that fits modern guidelines. The time to remove an existing boiler, fit the new piping and exitiing exhaust system can take this up to three working day.

Is there anything else I should know?

If your homes gas boiler is an older system then the pipework may not be suitable to a new boiler install. Modern heating guidelines means that the gas pipes that can be fitted must meet strict requirements.
