Replacing an old boiler with a new one the Wright way

We were called out to Skelmorlie to install a new boiler because the old one was no longer economically viable

Boilers like so many things have a life span. If they are taken care of properly then that life span with obviously increase. If a boiler is not serviced and is poorly maintained then it should come as no surprise that it does not last as long.

But even when a boiler has been looked after, there will still come a time when it is simply not economically viable to repair it. Parts may be too expensive or simply not obtainable anymore. We have fitted many new boiler installs because the cost of replacement parts was no longer sustainable and even finding those parts was a challenge. And that was the case with our customer in Skelmorlie. The old boiler needed to be replaced.

Was it an easy boiler install?

Relatively easy. We were fitting a brand new Baxi Boiler complete with a 10 year parts and labour warranty. And while the install was relatively straight forward, it still had some challenges. Namely that the boiler installer who fitted the boiler originally (not us) had not installed it correctly. A boiler needs to have 50mm of clearance on either side and as the photo below of the old boiler shows, it didn’t. So we had to spend time properly mounting the new boiler to ensure that there was enough of a gap either side.

Why was the original boiler install not done properly?

Whether the boiler installer who fitted it originally was cutting corners or cabinets have been moved, we will never know. But at Wright Gas we always fit new boilers to the highest standards.
