Helping an Elderly Couple with their New Boiler Install

We were given the tricky task of keeping a lovely elderly couple in their 90s warm throughout a 2 day job that required us to remove the old hot water tank and existing conventional boiler to upgrade them to a much more efficient Combi boiler.
The old heating system was past its best and by moving to a new combi boiler, it would be saving them massively with their gas bills.
Boiler Installation Challenges
The task at hand was no simple feat. The boiler install demanded the removal of the old hot water tank and conventional boiler, replacing them with a more efficient Combi boiler. While this sounds simple, it required a significant gas upgrade of the pipework at the property. This also included the replacement of all radiator valves.
If this was in the height of summer, it would have been a more straightforward job. However because the outside temperature was still in the low single digits, the paramount concern was to ensure the comfort and well-being of the elderly couple throughout the boiler installation process.
Our Solution for the Boiler Install
We approached the project with the same meticulous planning as always but needed to ensure that the work was done quickly to ensure that the home did not become too cold. Recognising the importance of minimal disruption, we devised a strategy to keep the heating downtime to an absolute minimum. Leveraging the presence of a gas fire in the living room, which provided warmth all day, we ensured the couple remained comfortable throughout the entire process.
Despite the intricate nature of the task, we managed to have the gas turned off for just 30 minutes. Remarkably, the living room, where the gas fire was situated, didn’t even have a chance to cool down. Similarly, the water supply was disrupted for a mere 15 minutes, minimising any inconvenience to the elderly couple.
The Outcome
The results spoke volumes. The elderly couple witnessed a seamless transition to a more efficient heating system, ensuring their comfort and well-being remained uncompromised. And with the upgrade to a Combi boiler and the extensive pipework enhancements, the couple will be benefiting from significant savings on their gas bills, alleviating any financial concerns they may have had.
