Repairing rotten joists as part of a bathroom fitting
While we all hope that the new bathroom that we have always dreamed of is fitted effortlessly and smoothly; until a job begins and we start lifting things up, we can never be 100% sure what we will find.
When we fit a new boiler (for example), it might be the condition of the existing gas piping that is an issue. And for fitting a bathroom, it may be the plumbing set up beneath the floor.
But with a new bathroom we are currently fitting in Langlands, Glasgow, the problem was unfortunately a big issue.
A persistent leak and dampness over a stretched out period of time had caused the wooden floorboards beneath the bathroom to rot. The actual joists – the wooden beams that support the floor were rotten and such was the damage, the only option was to replace them all.
Sadly for the customer, this meant an entirely new floor.
Don’t however let this story put you off. This was an issue that had gone unnoticed for a long period of time yet whether the customer was getting a new bathroom or not, the wood rot was an issue and needed dealt with.
One silver lining for the customer is that at Wright Gas, while our main service revolves around new boiler installs and now bathroom fitting, we are a jack of all trades.
What does that mean?
It means that we are a multi talented and skilled trades contractor. When it comes to fitting a new boiler (for example), it is not just a simply swap one out and put another one in. There can be plumbing issues to resolve. The electrical wiring for the boiler needs to be done. We may have to build a mounting frame for the boiler which involves joinery. We may even have to carry out some plastering and decorating if the boiler swap is from an old gravity fed system to a new combi boiler. The point is that we can handle it all. We do not need to hold up a project while we wait for a joiner to become available. We don’t need to wait for an electrician to provide the wiring.
So as you can see, we are a jack of all trades.
Why does that matter?
For this bathroom fitting, because of the wood rot on the joists, they needed to be fixed. We can provide that as part of the bathroom fitting service. We can sort the plumbing, install the toilet, bath, and sink. We can wire in the electric shower and of course, we can fit the new radiators.
When we say ‘Gas done the Wright way!’ what we should really be saying is ‘Everything done the Wright way!’
